"INTERNATIONAL FORUM" EDITION
Theatre Across Borders
If you are a theatre artist working internationally, we invite you to join the Forum!
NPTC began working internationally in 2015, bringing plays from the Women's Work Short Play LAB to Bogotá, Colombia for the bi-annual Alternative Theatre Festival. In 2021, with a group of nominees for the League of Professional Theatre Women's International Award, we created Theatre From the Streets. This program invited artists from 5 countries to create short plays to share the reality of their lives, unfilitered by State or Corporate media. You can watch videos by artists in Hungary, India, Palestine, The Philippines, and Venezuela on YouTube. Moderators put these plays in context and facilitated discussion with an international audience.
In 2023 we began to think about creating a dedicated platform where artists from around the world could engage directly with each other to share information and ideas, promote their work, and find ways to collaborate. Through 2024 we consulted with a group of international and U.S. artists who were already working across borders to determine how our site should function, with safety uppermost in our planning as we watched attacks on artists in volatile regions increase.
This past March we launched the Gilder/Coigney International Theatre Forum with a mission to engage international theatre women and their allies in networking and activism by facilitating conversation and artistic collaboration on a global basis. We aim to investigate a common language around diversity, inclusion, and cultural and religious pluralism as it applies across cultures, breaking down outmoded assumptions and fostering an open dialogue to enact positive change.
We look forward to meeting you at the Forum!
