Seeking Fair and Lovely: Rishtas and Rasas
by Niranjani Reddi
directed by Wallis Meghan Rolle
This new one-act play takes place in a matchmaking office in Portland. Told through a style inspired by classical Sanskrit drama, the script showcases each scene based on a particular emotion that helps drive the story forward.
Seeking Fair and Lovely asks first generation Indian-Americans; “How do we participate in the oppression of those in our own communities?”, “How do we pass on what we have been conditioned to believe to our children?”, and “What will it cost to break free of these cruel, centuries-long ideologies?”
More affiliates are in-house this month!
We're happy to welcome Theatre Beyond Broadway & Parity Productions
When not in production, we periodically share our space with NPTC "family" members—affiliated, mission-aligned companies with whom we have collaborated, co-produced and/or work(ed) with cross-company artists. We are ALL facing an uncertain future—the looming threat of economic chaos, unprecedented restrictions on freedom of speech and civil rights, wholesale destruction of the environment—and it is more important than ever that we support each other if there is any hope of withstanding the coming disaster.
We encourage you to find out more about these special companies and their projects!
This month Malini Singh McDonald and Theatre Beyond Broadway are rehearsing
Hellish Delights: A Collection of One Acts by Scott Sickles, performing at the Chain Theatre May 2-10, 2025. You can find out more about this special production and purchase a ticket HERE!
Ludovica Villar-Hauser and Parity Productions are workshopping and rehearsing two of their new plays in development: Somebody Will Pay by Cayenne Douglass, a former Women's Work LAB member, and Lights Out and Away We Go by 2024 Parity Development Award Winner Mallory Jane Weiss. Applications for the 2025 Parity Development Award are open until April 16th.
