IN THE PAPERS!

September 20 - 26, 2010.

Artistic Director Melody Brooks asked new members to take on the theme of IN THE PAPERS! This choice took into account the increasing media frenzy of 24 hour news channels, the blogosphere, and endless Facebook and Twitter updates as well as the Arizona “Papers Please” law (in the news in spring 2010). Each writer found her own take on this theme—from literal perspectives to more metaphorical explorations of what it means to be “without papers”. The resulting plays are as unique and diverse as the talented young writers who created them. Over the course of five months, writers revised and refined their scripts with input from our team of LAB directors, who are an integral part of the process.

We were delighted to be able to host students from the School for Classics (an NPTC Residency Project) for a performance of Mary and East, which they then used for a Play Analysis curriculum unit through the fall semester.
